Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
